I have the engine tore down now, and can see what the problem is. On #3, it looks like they didn't have the sleeve squared tot eh block, and instead of taking a second look, they got a really big hammer and beat the snot out of it. they broke the casting. The top lip that creates the top of the o-ring groove is missing from 1/4 of the bore. Pieces of the broken lip were embedded in the seal, and it was torn badly.
So, it looks like I need new seals. I went ahead and removed all the other sleeves, just to be sure that none of the others were destroyed as well. So, now I have to wait for parts, and in teh meantime, get to cleaning up the sleeves for a smooth re-entry into the bores. I'll get some pictures, and post later.
