The Bs when new were pos ground and 6v with a cut-out mounted on the generator. There is no real reason to go to 12v as they had a magneto ant didnot need any voltage from a battery when they ran only needed a battery to turn the starter. The bottom line do you want to keep them original. The 6v will start them below zero when things are in original form.
