You need a hydrometer to test the specific gravity. It looks like a medicine dropper. You pop of the cap on the battery and pull up some of the acid into the hydrometer. It has four balls in it. If all the balls float, it is fully charged. Three balls is 3/4 and so on. You have to test each cell. Be careful not to get acid on you.
