I cleaned the thermostat snap ring groove, used a new ring, and have not had any trouble with it. It seems if there is much of a groove at all, the right size snap ring should be able to hold the thermostat back.

My Touch Control was a little stiff at first and (after setting the stops underneath with the pressure gauge) the pump would load down the motor on start up. Cycling the levers all the way back and forward once would make it stop. After a few hours (10, 20 ?) of using it, the problems have cleared up.
