The closed end of the hydraulic assist cylinder has something that looks like a spool from a typical hydraulic valve. It is buried inside and not visible. The ball on the end of the pitman arm moves the spool and directs the flow.
Very simple and probably rebuildable with o-rings. Never had mine apart.
The steering valve in the steering cylinder is open center. All you need is a flow control valve w/safety, reservoir, any pump, and misc hoses.
If you are going with IH, make sure the flow control valve is 364 841 R93. It has an internal transverse regulating spool on the lower sides of the valve casting.
If I were in your shoes, I would go to a salvage yard and get the right parts including the pump. Everything is mounted out in the open and easy to get to. It should be cheaper than making up alot of hoses and buying an aftermarket FCV. The IH valve will be pancaked onto one or two implement control valves. Get the whole thing.
