Put my pulley back on the crankshaft. Tried this method first, using a bottle jack. Those all-threads were flexing all over the place, and I couldn't keep pressure perpendicular...
...so I added two more, cut and re-drilled the channel-iron, and it provided a totally stable base for the bottle-jack...
...and lo and behold...
Thanks to all who have added their input on this subject. Special thanks to Hugh MacKay, who's doubt about my first idea led me to scrap it, and who probably saved me a day and a lot of frustration!
