6 Volt System Help!!!

I'm finding that I am having a hard time
keeping a 6 volt battery in my Farmall Tractor.
One of the cells ends up with a 25% to 50%
loss. I had my starter rebuilt and retested,
and it all works fine. Some folks up here
tell me to make the move to 8 volt. I really
don't want to move over to 12 volt system,
because that would mean I would have to change
alot of things. Has anyone heard of using 8
volt battery instead of 6 volt?? Thanks, Mike
