On our 1256... the roll pin under the steering wheel broke a couple of times... then when it started jumping out of high range we had to pull the top cover off and put a new lever in there along with the spring and detent ball or whatever was in there. Figured out what was missing when we changed the hydraulic filters and found the spring!
The old beast is long gone now, replaced by a Deere, no less. :?
