On our 1256... the roll pin under the steering wheel broke a couple of times... then when it started jumping out of high range we had to pull the top cover off and put a new lever in there along with the spring and detent ball or whatever was in there. Figured out what was missing when we changed the hydraulic filters and found the spring!

The old beast is long gone now, replaced by a Deere, no less. :?

Not that i know of . First ya need to see if it is just some loose linkage or is it past do for a clutch adjustment . If it is hard shifting then ya need to do the clutch adjustment along with setting the trans brake and the T/A dump valve. IF it sloopy shifter ya starting looking at all the linkage from the top on down. Start by pulling the right cowel and see if maybe ya have a nut backing off on the little ball links . also look at the shifter yoke on the gearshift lever and see if the bolt has backed out.. These tractors are getting some age and ware on them just about like me .
