Thanks for the explanation. It makes more sense to me now. Too bad the pistons do not come with some instructions on this point. The old pistons were also flat top and looked just like the new ones I have but without the notch. I did notice that they had been slapping the side of the bore as they were worn on one side more than the other. I gues this is an effort to eliminate that. I learn something new everyday.
