I was taught that going to an 8 volt battery will not do any harm to the existing 6 volt electrical system period. It gives just a little more juice to get the motor turning over faster without doing any damage to the electical/ignition systems. Some say its even better for the starter because it doesn't turn over as much, keeping it cooler.
