Mike: Most of the tractors I remember new from the factory were D-16. The SM may have been different. The ones I remember from new were H, 300, 130, SA, etc.
I still use D-16 in my SA, 130 and 140. when I encounter other tractors in that hp class, my tractors con't have to take a back seat to any of them. On disk with 18" blades and S-tine feild cultivator, I require 1.25 hp per disk blade or S-tine, just about the same as a modern day 200 hp tractor. The way I got it figured, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
