Mike, adding to your information the 400,450 distillate and kerosene carburetors have the idle air adjusting screw and choke lever located the same as a SM, also the 300 distillate and kerosene R91 carbs have the same. M,supers and above carburetors use the economizer slot type passages and throttle shaft and same type main nozzle that has threads on the nozzle for the nut to go on at bottom of bowl to retain it.The gas type 300 to 450 and some others don't use the economizer shaft and use a discharge nozzle with threads on upper end and the bowl has the threads tapped in it to retain. IH sold at least 2 power improvment packages for a farmall M and I think 1 for SM that changed metering in the carburetor and also with some internal passages being blocked off. Also 50983 carbs went to at least DD suffix with several small changes inside from a D suffix to DD. On these old carburetors its hard to tell what you have unless you measure all orfices and check passages after taking apart, also find someones put bigger venturi in and drilled jets in some.
