Just to add to what Cowman said, the plcard on the airfilter of my 1933 F12 recommends "motor oil" and goes on to say "oil drained from the crankcase is suitable for this purpose". I don't reommend using used oil in there though. Used oil is very acidic due to the carbon and other byproducts of burned gasoline that get by the rings and valve stems. This acid settles to th bottom of the oild filter assemby and actually rusted pin holes in the canister from the inside out. I didn't find this until I started blating parts during restoration. I guess Great Grandad followed the used oil recommendation.
