Dsl: I suspect those 18.4x28 tires are the reason for the increase in speed, they'll make a big difference over the 14.9x28. You've actually gone up 3 sizes. Over the years I've increased Farmalls 560 and 656 from 15.5x38 to 16.9x38, Farmalls 130 and 140 from 11.2x24 to 12.4x24 and I had a 1066 ordered in with 20,8x38 rather tha the standard 18.4x38. Each and everyone of those changes made a substancial difference in road speed, and in all cases it was only a one size step up.
I don't think there were any optional gear sets that would change all gears. Over the years IH had options for various tractors that would change some of the first 4 gears, but never 5th. Since 5th is straight through 1 to 1 in transmission, it would have to be crown and pinion or bull gear and brake pinion gear and shaft change. Don't think there anything along those lines that would increase speed.
