Allen, you are correct that the 460, 560, 656, ect. do have the same width frame rails as an M, but what Owen was getting at was the clutch housing width. 460, 544, 656, 666, and 686 have a 10 1/2" clutch, while M, 400, 560, ect. have a 12" clutch. The frame rails bolt to the sides of the 460-686 size clutch housing, while on the M-560, they bolt to the front of the clutch housing. 706-1456 have the same width frame as the M, while 766-5488 are a couple inches wider. I always used to assume that 656-686 had the same clutch as 560, but I guess the smaller clutch on the newer tractors was IH's attempt to cheapen production costs.
