the end bearing has balls all the way around, then on the other side of the shaft you will see a seal in the bolster, there should be a bushing driven in there the shaft rides on. carter and gruenwald has a rebuild kit for the front bolster, comes with all the bushings, bearings and seals. when you drive th roll pin out, support the shaft with a block of wood, there is a retaining clip in the coupler, that thing is a evil to get back in if you knock it out. when you get the pin out of the coupler, the shaft will unscrew out the front of the bolster. if you are dropping the main steering post shaft, what i do is jack the front end up so the wheels are just off the ground, hook a 2 jaw puller on the bolster housing, then snug it down on the shaft after loosening the nut that holds the top sector gear on. then whack the bolt on the gear puller a little, the top gear will pop loose, leave the nut on until you get the front wheels off, then put a floor jack under the shaft, remove the nut and ease the shaft down. that shaft is pretty heavy too!!
