Problem turned out to be an occasionally sticking fuel needle. I rebuilt the carb as it was prior to my cleaning it and the fuel tank. Ended up buying another kit ($32.00 for a fuel needle, seat and couple of gaskets -excluding jets!??) In this kit was a spring that attaches to the needle and float. Didn't use the spring before as her Farmall A parts book nor the service manual showed it and it wasn't in the carb when I disassembled it for the first rebuild-honest. Long story short- use the spring....gravity alone ain't going to make that needle drop open every time.
