CONGRATULATIONS JW, Once a VR"s contacts get burned or carboned up n stick occasionally to where a good SMACK can release them, unfortunately grrrrrrrrrrr it may not be too long before it needs replaced cuz they could stick more permanently. It can help to non abrasively clean/buff/polish them but use caution in filing etc too much cuz once that shiny silver coating is gone they dont last long. If cleaned (or maybe they just needed exercised from sitting) they may never stick again, hopefully. On the genny brushes, stuck or gummed up or corroded brush hold down spring assemblys is a major cause of non charging. They need to be cleaned and then light lube the spring hold down assembly and exercised (flipped held open n then released closed) now n then plus keep the film n oil n carbon off the commutator is alllllll good preventitive maintenance. best wishes
