Gas Consuption SH

Anyone figured the gals per hr for a SH doing moderate work? Mowed about 10 acres of low ground today, 9 foot 1100 IH mower, in thick brome and canary grass. Pretty good amount of creeping jennt there too. I was in 1st gear, almost full throttle all the way. In three hours I think I burned over half the tank. Is this normal?
OT. Will horses or calves eat that creeping jenny? Or should I pull it out of the windrows? Gordo
