3088 questions......any good? Need some wisdom.

Still on the hunt for that perfect tractor. How are the IH 3088"s?? 80HP is about the size I"m needing and it looks like you can get a 3088 with 3-4,000 hours on it for about the same price you may pay for a real straight JD 3020 or 4020? The 3088 would be alot newer and chances are have a whole lot fewer hours on it! I"m not all that familiar with the 88 series. Dad bought a 986 new in 1980, and I wasn"t all that impressed. It never carried very good oil pressure and would grind into gear everytime even after multiple adjustments. Tractor only has 2800 hours and has never been abused. Did IH get the shifting thing improved with the 88 series? I appreciate all the help you guys give on this forum. I sure ask alot more questions than I could ever answer. I"m sure many of you have forgotten more about tractors, than I"ll ever know! DJL
