Those are alignment dowel pins and the pins are tight enough there sometimes to hold center housing to transmission. Most times if threads are not batered up you can tighten nuts down enough that they start pulling out or spinning in hole and they can be worked out. Or if housing is in a position to do it, use a block of wood and big hammer on each side at front of housing until you get a crack between housings. Warning housings will break if hammered to much. Can't remember for sure on a H, but on a M those holes go all the way in to transmission and oil will leak at the pins if there not tight enough. So sometimes you find sealer on them which makes them tighter.
