Keith, the people that build them commercially can usually get some pretty good quantity discounts on raw materials. The average joe that wants to build just one cannot get those discounts, and will usually end up paying more for the materials than what a complete-ready to go unit could be purchased for.

If you can build it with used materials that you already have, and don't count your labor, you can do it for less.
