M serial number missing

need help figuring out what serial number may have been on a "M" that my brother is restoring.
Tag is missing on frame. The serial number on motor is FBKM 148881 X1. Is there some publication that references motor numbers to serial numbers? The casting numbers seem to indicate it is a 1948. Thanks for any help.
The tractor belonged to our dad and he farmed many years with it. He bought it used. Thanks again.
