IH300U Water Pump Packing Nut

Cooling system is all back together and seems to work fine. And yes, the thermostat goes in upside down which in this case is right side up :)

The front water pump packing nut(accessed just in front of fan)is a fairly large nut and seems to be quite loose and leaking some grease. I turned the the nut IN about a turn and a half. I assumed it is there to increase pressure on the packing.

Question: Is this nut an adjustment for the packing or is it supposed to be all the way in and snug.
