I say you both could be right, and here's why. Internal combustion engines have a habit of shutting down at just about the same place over 65% of the time. Within a few degrees any how. I lost 100 bucks in a bet at a tractor show betting that my tractor wouldn't stop within 2 inches of the same spot 6 out of ten times. He was wrong though...it was eight out of ten. So the starter is indexing the flywheel ring gear in the same location 65% of the time putting a big wear pattern on the ring gear that can hang up a starter. Likewise, I have seen a somewhat worn out starter shaft let the bendix gear go out to far and get hung up. Iv'e fixed this problem by putting a little bead of weld near the end of the shaft so it can't go all the way out there. Iv'e also seen a burr on the shaft hang up the bendix. With all the possibilities...I'd deal with the starter first....take nose cone off and see if there is a burr or is the shaft clean...if so, put the little bead of weld near the end...not too far up or it won't let the bendix go out far enough. If it still does it...then it is the ring gear. At least you wouldn't have split the tractor in half if it was just a starter. Hope this helps... Drew

Paint is another, the modern acrylic enamels are great for resistance to grease and fuel stains, retaining their shine and they last forever; unlike enamels and lacquers . Still another is the alternator. No doubt using the original generator keeps the tractor pure, but for thos
