You asked about costs. Alot depends on whether it is your labor or someone else's. And if it is someone else's, you may be sold items you don't need. Most TA failures can be traced to the ramp and rollers. The rollers can't advance far enough to lock up and create the power shift. I am hestitant to give prices because I haven't bought a TA or parts in a while. Ball park says $150 for ramp and rollers, and $500-600 for compelte unit. You might consider other work while you have the tractor split in three parts. That would be the clutch disc, pressure plate, and flywheel. There is also a driven gear on the IPTO that sometimes gets wobbley. Test the TA by pulling back the TA lever, selecting fourth gear, and easing out the clutch pedal while at rest. A better test is to do some plowing and shifting back and fourth between the high and low range. The wrong oil can cause symptoms similar to a bad TA.
