How to remove a inner brake plate / bearing retain

I have aSuper W4 and have to change the Bull shaft seals. I also want too true up the inner braking surface on the bearing retainer. I have been told by some this retainer just slides out and told by others you have to disassemble the transmission. Which is correct? If the latter is the case how do you remove the bearing seal?
