I have custom setups with pistons and rod combos that can put a 281 in the 70 hp range with an old 8060 head. I like the M throttle body better, larger idle circuit, and add a 6 cyl carb bowl, and you can idle a stock to pretty modified engine,,,, If your 281 makes 150 psi, thats in the 55-60 hp range. Save your money on the custom cam,, the 450 cam is great! Find one of those, you wont be disaponted. The heads are the same,, just one is newer than the other,, less prone for cracks??? maybe,,, M block wont take the 450 sleeve flange size,, have the sleeve flanges cut back to the M specs,,, bore the M block to 4.25 and drop in the 450 sleeves. make sure the block is good, cause old M blocks are thin at the bottom,, even at 4.25.
