The engine serial number should be readable, and it should be really close to the chassis serial. Won't be the same, just close.

Not all 1950's were white demonstrators. Only some of them were. The rest were "red sellers" as in they were painted red to be sold after the farmer got his socks knocked off by the white demonstrator.
