Change the coil to a true 12-Volt coil, or add a ballast resistor ahead of the coil you have. Connect the coil's (+) terminal to the ignition switch (or resistor, if used), and the coil's (-) terminal to the distributor. Connect the alternator like the photo below. 
You can use a #194 lamp as an "idiot light" in place of the diode. Change any lights to 12-Volts.
