Can you feel the lower lever on the side of the pump contact the stop plunger when the cable is in the start position? When it acts up and you have trouble starting it, is there a normal amount of smoke coming out the exhaust, or is there no smoke or less smoke than normal? Next time you have trouble starting it, try cracking the bleed valve on the fuel filter open, see if you get fuel coming out right away, or if some air comes out first. I suppose it's possible that the fuel from the tank to the filter is draining back while the tractor sits, but I'm not familiar enough with the 664 to say why. I noticed you say "turn it over and pull the advance". Are you cranking the engine before you pull the cable? You should have the cable pulled before you start cranking. It does make a difference. Also helps to have the throttle in exactly the quarter throttle position. Can you post a picture of your 664? They are a very rare tractor and I've never even seen a picture of one. All I know is that they are very similar to a 544 Utility.
