Farmall BN axle noise

How tight should the short wheel axle/bull gear be made? My BN in 4th gear when I let the clutch out makes a clunk noise from that area like something is loose. It also whines which I figured a certain amount of noise is normal? But I don't really hear it coming from the axle side under the seat. It has 90 wt oil in it. Thanks
