Farmall BN wiring update-John T

Wired in my 4 pole voltage regulator as you instructed using the L terminal. I still need to buy a new 6 volt battery to polarize generator and try it all out. I still have one more question regarding the amp meter. One post on the amp meter in wired to the BAT terminal on the VR. The other post on the amp meter is wired to the starter/battery. The posts on my amp meter are marked + and -. Does it matter which wire goes to which post? If backwards would it just show a discharge rather than charging? Thank you for your help.
