Yes Ron the cracks can be welded but you will need to get all the grease away from the area you need to weld. If there is any grease in the welding field it will overwhelm the inert atmosphere created by the flux and the steel will burn instead of weld. You could make the cracks into holes in a hurry. I would drop out the spindle and clean the inside of the tube thoroughly. Then gently heat the area of the crack with a torch to burn out any residual grease. Wire brush the area and then weld. take the time to prep the weld area correctly and you will be much happier with the results. Tallperson
