It almost sounds to me like you are somewhat worried about the “originality police” coming around and criticizing you for either the band-aid approach or not having the correct date of casting code. Since it sounds like you have all the parts, I would put it to all 1939 parts and make it as original as possible. If you have never had a rear end apart, this will be an educational experience, plus you will gain some bragging rights as to both originality and knowledge of how that rear end actually works. If I was just going to use it for work, I’d leave it the way it is…
