I had the cover off of mine several years ago - if I remember right the 4 studs are just smooth studs that fit into the holes - no threads on the bottom side. I don't why the top is threaded. As for the gasket I couldn't get one so I bought some gasket material in a tube from NAPA - can't remember what it was. It worked fine. I just scraped off the exces when it dried.
