H carburetor - half gas, half kerosene

The carb on my 1948 H has a gasoline part number on the top half, on the little brass circle thing. The bottom half (bowl assembly) has a kerosene part number on the casting (6212 DB). Are the two really compatible? I have overhauled it twice using 2 different kits - one gas, one kerosene (both purchased off this YT website). Neither one makes it run right. Any ideas?
