Super M Brake Tips?

I need to service the brakes on my '53 Super M and have never done it before. Can anyone give me any tips? When I bought the tractor last fall, the brakes were not good to start with, but they've gotten even worse. And I haven't driven it that much--a few trips around my acre is about it. I'm told that brake work is not that difficult, but I'd appreciate any advice on going about it. I do have the service manual and a couple of other restoration books. Thanks!
