Engine knock on an MD? Help!!

I fired up the old MD yesterday and it ran fine on the gas side. When switched to diesel I let it idle for a few minutes. When I gave it a little throttle There was a loud rap" rap" rap" on the injector side of the engine, up high towards the head. Scared the puddin right out of me. Its never done it before. I shut it off as quick as I could. I then started it a few minutes later the same way, let it idle on diesel longer. I took it out and worked it with a disc and no more knock. I cant figure it out. Anyone ever had this happen? What the heck is it?!! Sorry for the long post. Andy
