The early (1939-1940)modles didn't come with mounting hole for starter if it wasn't equipped with a starter from the factory. You should be able to buy a ring gear but the torque tube would have to be replaced. This tractor doesn't have a choke rod either I'll bet. This would be a rare enough tractor that I would keep it as is. Dave.
