Model A Farmall question

I just looked at model "A" belonging to a friend's grandfather. They don't know much about tractors and wanted to know if it could be updated with a starter. I'm an old AC fan so Farmall isn't exactly my field. But when I got there I found a very intact 1940 tractor with no "mounting hole" for a starter or a ring gear on the flywheel. I'm fairly sure I've seen "A" model Farmalls with electric starter before. Can anyone tell me if I could take an old lawn mower combo starter/generator with a pulley on it and mount on the left side to start it using the crankshaft pulley? Not sure if a belt would hold. Any other ideas? I know if it were mine I'd leave it as is.
