All castings have production tollerances that are caused by cores or fixtures shifting when the cast is poured into the mold. Shrinkage and seasoning of the block in the first 2weeks of its existance, and the relief of stress from machining all add up. To be reasonable, the metal should be .200" (some say .150" they are risk takers) thick in all places. Sophisticated equipment can use X-ray technology, or ultrasound, to determine the real thickness of the walls, tested at intervals on all cylinders. The piston pin location and diameter are also fundamental to success. Rod length, and offset are important considerations. I do not know the risk on that engine, others will add that element.
