Anyway, while the shifter on the 656 is 5-forward, 1-reverse, like the M, it's not on the deck with the shift lever directly connected to the rails. It's got a little short lever up on the side of the console (you can see it in one of the pics you included with your other post). It's got a good bit of linkage parts to get from the lever down to the transmission. I've never heard anything bad about it, the way you sometimes hear about the '06s, but I've only ever driven 656's that were brand new, still at the dealer.
I like the idea of buy them both, then make up your mind, but I've never been known for a practical nature.
