300u exhaust manifold

The exhaust on my 300u has been converted to go up, and I want it down. Atleast could get it in the granary to work on it then.
One source informs me the exhaust exits the manifold going up, then goes through a 180 degree turn down. Another provided me a drawing from a parts book and the exhaust goes out the side.
Which is correct, and how does the exhaust pipe fasten to the manifold, threaded into or bolted on?
With conflicting answers so far, I guess the most convincing, or maybe the majority, wins this one.
