As Old said disconnect the wire from the mag. Putting voltage to the terminal may have already done dammage. The mag is grounded to stop at that terminal. If it still works (tooo COOOL) if not ther are gobs of information here on this site in the archives. Bob M and John T have posts (as well as others).
Purchase a repair manual and a automotive diagnosis and tuneup text book from the ninteen fifties. Then read it rather than 2 TV shows per week.
