another C question

I was wondering if I can take the PTO angle gear box off and cover the hole with a plate, or is there a shaft or a gear that sticks out to far for a plate to seat? I would like to lower the pivot point for the top link, but the gearbox is in the way. I know I will never use the pulley for anything anyway. Thanks, Nat
