You likely have worn bolster pivot shaft bushings - especially the upper one (the one directly beneath the sector gear). To check, watch the sector gear and rotate the steering shaft back and forth. If you see any lateral movement (side to side or front to back) of the sector gear, you've found the problem. --- New bushings are available from CIH and they are relatively cheap ($40 or so for a set). However you must disassemble the entire front bolster assembly and drop the pivot shaft to get at 'em. Punch below for a few pix from when I rebushed the front end on my Super H. (New bushings completely eliminated steering slop in mine...) Tip: The pivot shaft (sector) gear fits on a tapered spline fit at the top of the pivot shaft. To remove the gear without a puller, jack the front end of the tractor and remove the lower bolster/front wheel assembly. Now loosen the nut at the top of the pivot shaft it's flush with the top of the threads. Now hit the top of the shaft with a large brass hammer. Or place a soft metal scrap on top of the pivot shaft and give a good lick with a sledge hammer. The shaft should pop free. Finally unscrew the nut and drop the shaft out thru the bottom.

Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o
