I guess you have a bearing problem. Take the top cover off where the worm gear mates with the half gear, and jack the front of the tractor up by the frame. If this is the problem, you will see how this creates excesive gear lash. I have not replaced these bearings, but I know there are a lot of good posts in the archives. Good Luck Paul
