If I were you I would take those micrometers over to your local auto machine shop and ask them to show you how they're used. It takes some practice and those mikes can read to .0001" of an inch. Use them very gently when measuring. Some people think can be used like a C-clamp.

Use a piece of 1/4" tubing or rod and use your
0-1 inch mike to measure it. Should read .250". Hal
